Trident RFID Team

Meet the Team

Firstly, we are engineers. Propeller heads. There is no hype. And no hoopla. We don’t have a big budget-marketing department or a waterfall in the foyer. And we don’t have fancy pants marketing people to write blogs and correct our spelling. Our customers are our marketers. They have an idea. They tell us about it. We design and build it. They test it. Then we optimize it. They test it again. (we take a breath). We re-work it. Then, when they say its ready, we commercialize it.

Our design and engineering team is based in Brisbane, Australia where we also assemble our readers and antenna products.

But we also have a virtual network team of contract RFID engineers in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, China and Europe who we call on to help us solve problems and contribute to the design process. This also gives us that invaluable “in-country” feedback from all those places where our systems are used around the globe.

With our in-house expertise and external resources on tap we can continually innovate and update our products to give our customers the edge against their rivals.

That’s why we can deliver such superior timing systems to you at such great prices.

We have supplier and channel relationships with many partners in USA, UK, Europe, India, China, Australia and New Zealand.

And it doesn’t stop at the gate. We then provide remote access software support via web-based applications and have field technicians on the ground in USA, UK and Europe to help our customers keep their systems in tip-top working order.

In today’s global market, we are never far away – however far away you are.

Philip Almond

Our fearless leader and Chief Enthusiasm Officer. Philip was one of the original founders of Ipico and has 30 years technology experience with 15 years working solely in RFID. He’s “been there, done that”.

He’s one of those rare guys who combines serious brain power with commercial and entrepreneurial flare. He rolls his sleeves up and gets in there with the design, development and delivery of our technology solutions and has worked tirelessly over the past few years to commercialise the new range of Trident timing systems.

Hendrik van Eeden

Our expert in integrated circuit design is based in China and has developed 12 successful RFID chips over the past 20 years and has 7 RFID protocol related patents!  He also drafted the ISO18000-6D standard!!
Hendrik’s chips have been deployed in volumes of hundreds of millions all over the world. Hendrik is from South Africa which means he “tawks” a bit funny. But who cares. He invented our patented Tri-Frequency (TF) chip, the hub of our next generation timing technology. And now he’s inventing the next chip…

Mark Fletcher

Our electronic design guru. Mark is the founder of Invision Enterprises based in Auckland, New Zealand. Mark has worked with out team for over 15 years and is an integral part of the family.

George Sutherland

George is our local ‘I need you to do this’ designer. George has over 20 years hands-on experience in electronic product design, pcb design, development, firmware and production systems. And he’s cool. He builds race cars and electric guitars. He runs his electronic product development.

Connar Mossman

Our graphic designer. Our sports timing guru. Our guy who does what he’s told. Connar is mature way beyond his years. Unlike his father. He actually does make good tea.

Phil Mossman

Our “big-picture” guy. Tea-boy, bean counter and focal point for our channel partners all rolled in to one. Phil is passionate about health and sport and was one of the original founders of Times-7 Sport. He has extensive corporate, finance, private enterprise and international channel distribution experience built up over 30 years to back it all up. He also makes good tea.

Wayne Uroda

With 10 years of experience designing digital systems and writing cross-platform and smartphone software, if it can run code, chances are Wayne’s written some to run on it. Wayne’s areas of expertise include communication technologies such as USB, Bluetooth, network technologies and NFC, as well as embedded communication and control systems.  Educated in electronic engineering and physics Wayne is assisting in the design of new RF technologies and new software features while learning from the experiences of the gurus around him.

Roger Dunn

Our antenna designer. Dodger has a hugely successful track record in RFID system installations from access control to vehicle and animal ID.

He designed our TF transmitter and plays a large part in all system designs. He also hates fancy designer types messing with his faceplates. But that’s another story…

Brian O’Neill

We think Brian may be one of the brightest people on earth. He holds a masters degree in Electrical Engineering and has several patents for his work with CSIRO.

Brian is responsible for our PCB level designs and is the designer of all optimised Trident TF tags in production.

Don Hale

He’s all about design and function. Don has 30 years experience in electronic equipment design, development and production, from concept to final product, with vast experience in various management, service and Quality Assurance roles within the electronics industry. Don is partial to Coke Zero and has personally taken on the role of Trident O’Tag Challenge ambassador.

Darren Scraggs

Our unflappable production whizz. You know that TimeMachine Pro which never fails you? His team built it with painstaking love and care. He also refurbishes readers and fixes stuff. He once spent 2 weeks in a toilet in Peoria fixing nothing but mats. That’s the kind of commitment you get from our team.

Seppo Saario

Our Radio Modem & UHF guy. Seppo is a master in all areas of cellular handset design, avionics RF systems, circuit design, multilayer mixed signal PCB layout and UHF antenna design. He even flies planes. Real and toy ones.

He is the founder of RF Design and an integral part of our team. Check out his web-store at www.rfdesign.com.au and you’ll see where the Trident new low-profile UHF mat antenna came from. And he’s working on the UHF Reader right now…

John Timmins

Our field service “machine”. An expert in electronics hardware, John is able to diagnose problems in a flash, then investigate and implement a solution. And he’s just one of those all time nice guys.

Brendon Lodge

Random guy, just turned up one day and started working in the office and called himself the Sales Manager, he was friendly enough so we went along with it. He has had years of experience in event management and has run one of New Zealand’s largest triathlon clubs Tri HB.
